Did you know, there's a worlds speed jigsaw puzzling event? You didn't, well let me tell you! This event has been happening in Valladolid, Spain since September 2019. It happens every year around September.
Since 2019 Countries have tried their hand at National Speed puzzling events or Area Championships. COVID delayed other country involvement, but in 2022 two countries had their own national speed puzzling competitions, the USA, in San Diego, CA and Australia, in Melbourne.
As this exciting pastime grew, in 2023 three more countries decided to try their hand at hosting a championship event. USA was going to host their event every other year, so they did not have a Nationals competition in 2023, but Canada, in Georgetown, Spain, in Avila, and Sweden, in Goteborg, hosted their first speed puzzling Championship competitions.
The year of 2024 was a breakthrough in speed jigsaw puzzling, this pasttime which was slowly becoming a sport exploded with involvement around the world. Seventeen countries were able to host their own speed puzzling National or Area Championships and Worlds Championship in Spain was also this year. The next countries/provinces/regions to participate in this competitive sport were Finland, Denmark, Norway, Portugal, Egypt, New Zealand, Colombia, Brazil, Canberra, Slovenia, China and Japan. The World is now going wild hosting these events, some providing multiple opportunities a year to participate with others sharing the interest of jigsaw puzzling.
In the USA in 2025, the United States of America Jigsaw Puzzle Association, USAJPA (https://www.usajigsaw.org/), took feedback from the competitors all over the nation and brought us another Nationals speed puzzling competition when they were going to try every other year. Well, we had our nationals competition in April of 2025 and it was our largest one yet! Two hundred teams, 400 pairs and 600 solo competitors participated in speed jigsaw puzzling from all over the nation. It was so fun! Ravensburger is the world renowned sponsor of speed jigsaw puzzling National and world events.
